The photographs in this gallery were filed as evidence in the Bureau of Digital Welfare's study of borrowed nostalgia, a condition researchers describe as grief for a time the subject never lived.
They are published in the order they were recorded. Every frame was taken in the same room. The subject did not leave it. By the final stages, the images were no longer coming from the camera.
